Personal Reflections
Keep Your Light Shining
Based on Matthew 5:13–16
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Don’t stop learning. Learning and growing are essential to maintain your ability to season the world around you, to give it flavor, to add something to it that it does not have and that makes it even better. Salt is a chemical compound. If you think you have learned all there is to learn and you have achieved a level that you don’t have to maintain then you’re losing your saltiness. You have been put into the world to season it, to give it what you have. But if you never replenish what you have you will lose it and you will become worthless as a representative of God. You must continue to work out your salvation. You must continually seek closeness with God. You must work to stay in a close relationship with him. Only then will your life be used for what it was created. Only then will you be on the path of the redeemed.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world. You have two choices with the light that is within you: be prominent so his light can be seen, or be silent and invisible which would keep the light also unseen. Christ is only visible in the flesh through you and me. “In a little while the world will no longer see me,” John 14:19 But the world does see you. You must make the light visible. You must let people see your changed life. You must represent the living Christ.
