Personal Reflections
A Life Worth Spending
A topical reflection on purpose and eternity
May 2022
Is what you're spending your time on worth spending your life on?
Is what you're spending your life on worth giving your life for?
Do you know what you are supposed to be doing, what God created you uniquely to do?
Are you doing it? If not, why not?
If you don't know, it's about time you found out, because time's a wasting.
As eternal beings we will live forever. But as physical beings we are of limited duration. At some point in our life we're going to exit the physical and return to the eternal. (Like you could ever leave the eternal, let alone return.)
We may get 80, 90 or 100 years but that is all our experience on earth will be. Let's see, we're in heaven in eternity and we're thinking about 100 years. I mean, what? In the face of eternity that 100 years would be not having nothing. Pffft. Done!
You know, the average lifespan of a professional athlete is 75 years. Only 10 of those years are spent professionally playing their sport. For most, the greatest meaning comes in 15% of their life. While many athletes have a career after sports, for many that 15% of their life is the meaning for their life.
For the average person in this country, we'll have 75 good years, roughly divided into 20 years of prep followed by 45 working years, and another ten years or so of leisure.
So, we'll have all of eternity to reflect on what we did, and a very short time in which to do it.
Compare our short physical life with eternity. 75-80 years of life on earth compared to eternity in heaven. That's like an atom looking at the cosmos. No scale can measure that great of a contrast.
So, why are you here? What has God created you uniquely to do?
God didn't put you on this earth for this short time for no reason. The God that designed and created the universe with such incredible precision did not miss this detail. You're here for a reason. There is a purpose for your life.
Let's find out and then, just for fun, let's do it.
Because time's a-wastin'.
